2012 hairstyles for women : Homemade curls

The year marks the true start of a new decade, and yet 2011′s fashion trends are all about revival. True, there is a unique undertone of a modernist style appearing, but take some of the most iconic styles of the 20th century, infuse them with quality, and you’ll find the basis for the dominant styles of 2011.

The year’s hair trends are no different. For fashionisers in 2011, hair is all about revivals and evolution. With styles and colours we’re seeing the best of 2010 reborn, whereas cuts are offering reworked and luxurious revivals of styles that sit perfectly with the year’s clothing trends.

A hint of nostalgia with a surprising twist of modernity was the theme for Prada’s spring 2012 collection. 
On this runway, even the hair was girlish and quirky with a neat side parting, hair tucked behind the ear, and soft curls at the back. Follow the how-to guide to recreate the style.

The how to:

Redken’s Creative Consultant Guido says this hairstyle is akin to a girl getting ready for a tea party by curling her hair and using bobby pins to hold it together.

“…she did her hair herself. It’s kind of homemade, not finished, the hair of a woman with a David Lynch darkness – she’s more night than day with her hair. But she is overall a Prada woman because there is a refinement to her quirkiness,” he said.

To achieve the look:

Step-1: Apply some blow-dry lotion (the Redken team used Satinwear 02) to towel-dry hair.
Step-2: While the hair is still damp, create a clean left side part and secure with a bobby pin on the right side.
Step-3: Also, tuck hair behind the ears (while hair is 75 per cent dry).
Step-4: Use a blow dryer to dry the hair without using too much heat in this setting (steps 2 and 3).

Step-5: Once hair is completely dry, section the back hair to start curling. You may apply a curl-enhancing lotion in this step (Redken’s Hot Sets 22 is recommended by Guido), but it’s not vital.
Step-6: Curl sections of the hair with either a curling iron or a GHD straightener. If unsure of your curling capabilities, ask a friend to help you out, as the curls are predominantly at the back.
Step-7: Once curled, leave them in. Don’t brush the curls out, even with your fingers.
Step-8: Spray hair spray all through the curls.
Step-9: Apply hairspray on a paddle brush and comb through the crown of the head. This will keep the flyaways at bay.

How to wear the style

With curls, it depends on the sustainability of each curl, so as to predict its teaming with clothes and accessories. Prada worked the look with fifties-style bikinis just as well as it did with the midi-length pencil skirts.

Whatever it may be, this hairstyle is girly-ness galore and boosts incredible amounts of femininity. To justify the look, pick from sundresses, crop tops, floral prints and ‘60s-style pieces. However, since the hair is tucked behind the ear, take the style tip from Prada and go big on earrings and bracelets.
